Adobe’s Fireworks CS3 is incredibly well suited for Web Designers because it is intuitively laid out contributing to a relatively short learning curve, allowing you to work quickly while still producing rich graphics for the web. It can be argued that Photoshop is a far more complex and robust tool, one which entrenched itself early as the industry standard, but it’s also a program developed primarily for Graphic Designers that is a full time craft in and of itself. This is not always the most practical solution for the average web designer who nowadays is expected to be additionally well versed in things like Flash, PHP, Javascript, etc .. etc .. Dammit, we’re only human after all. I mean, surely there’s more to life than spending every waking hour staring at a flickering computer screen … the mouse gradually fusing itself to our hand as we mutter incoherently . . .

You’ll find a pretty mixed bag of Fireworks Video Tutorials on the internet, in other words they’re scattered all over in various forms of Quality, Skill Levels, and sometimes appearing vaguely on websites with so much advertising I’m not sure where to actually find the video, although by that point it hardly matters because I’m spending all my time closing pop-up ads for penis enlargement. Anyway, I still haven’t been able to find a reliable or consistent source for free stuff that covers the basics and beyond in a series of lessons, and unless you’re willing to scrounge around and assemble a lesson plan for yourself you’ll have to shell out for sites like Lynda.com, which is good but a little pricey. Having said that, some of my favorite lessons have come from Jim Babbage, Kim Cavanaugh, and Tom Green at Community MX, and they can also be found contributing over at Adobe’s ever evolving website in the Fireworks Design Center, although the tutorials there tend to be a little on the advanced side for someone who’s just starting out.
If you do find any other good sites for Fireworks Video Tutorials, let me know because I’d love to check them out, and if you have ideas or suggestions for Video Tutorials you’d like to see you can also drop me a line in Comments and I’ll see what I can do. In the meantime, here’s a video of my own which looks at the Window Pane Masking Effect . . .
